Introduction

DOAP Generator is NetBeans Plugin that allows you to generate DOAP file about your project straight from your IDE using simple wizard. DOAP file is RDF/XML based description of a project, and it is used in particular for open source projects. After instalation, to generate DOAP file just right click project > New File > Other > DOAP File and follow the wizard. At the end, wizard will generate doap.xml file in the base dir of your project. You can use DOAP file to distribute up-to-date information about your project over the web (in a feed like manner) and even generate open source portals by aggregating that feed info. By creating this plugin we would like to promote and support wider usage of DOAP, which will make easier to keep information about open source projects updated over the web. Having this kind of tool in you IDE will make it very easy to create. After you create DOAP file for your project just put it in the root directory of your project website and let the world know about it. Hopefully more and more portals will start supporting it over the time. Some of the big open source repositories using DOAP at the moment are: Apache Foundation, Gnome and SourceForge
