Introduction

Provides French word lists for use in the online spellchecker : fr, fr_FR and fr_CH.
They are based on expanded GNU Aspell dictionaries (GNU GPL v2), so all of the affixes have been processed (total = ~600.000 words per language).
Packaged and tested with NetBeans 7.0, and works with NetBeans 6.9.1 too.

How to install and use :

  • download and install the plugin. You must have the "Spellchecker" already installed
  • in the NetBeans Spellchecker options panel, select one of the French locales : "fr", "fr_FR" or "fr_CH"
  • return to the code editor, type a letter and save (in order to wake up the spellchecker, only), and -this is very important- wait : your CPU will work for some minutes because it is caching the dictionary. You can go to your ".netbeans\7.0\var\cache\dict" folder and see if the corresponding ".trie1" ("dictionary_fr_FR.trie1" for the "fr_FR" locale) file has been created. It is about ~14MB.
  • When the ".trie1" is finished, and the CPU load is not at 100%, it is OK : the dictionary has been correctly cached, and you can use the spellchecker !
If you don't wait the dictionary caching, you may encounter an Exception, and the spellchecker won't work. If you have too many problems to obtain the ".trie1" files, you can download them (they come from my NetBeans installation : 7.0.0 on Windows Seven x64, ~430KB per file) and uncompress (with 7-zip) them in the ".netbeans\7.0\var\cache\dict" folder before launching NetBeans :

  • for "fr" : http://netbeanscolors.org/files/aspell/nb700/dictionary_fr.trie1.7z
  • for "fr_CH" : http://netbeanscolors.org/files/aspell/nb700/dictionary_fr_CH.trie1.7z
  • for "fr_FR" : http://netbeanscolors.org/files/aspell/nb700/dictionary_fr_FR.trie1.7z

Known issues :

  • after the first NetBeans restart, the "Spellchecker" and "Spellchecker English Dictionaries" may be disabled. You can simply reactivate them
  • if you uninstall or update the dictionary plugin, the ".trie1" files won't be deleted automatically

Works in MPLABX 3.2x

Hi,

I've tried on MPLABX 3.26, which is based on Netbeans, and it works.
- Download the plugin.
- Install it manually via Tools --> Plugins, go to the Downloaded Tab, and "Add plugins..."
- Select the plugin, and then accept everything.
- Reinitialise MPLABX.

Until here, it's just the same procedure as any plugin. Now, to activate the plugin, I've struggled for like 5 minutes until I did:
- Tools --> Options, Editor tab, and Spellchecker tab.
- You should see already the french dictionaries available.
- Set "Default locale" to "fr_FR".
- Accept, and reinitialise MPLABX

Re: Can't install

Hi,
since NB8 there are trie2 files, not trie1.

They should be created automatically once you've selected French locale in editor options, and typed something in a file monitored by spellshecker.

Can't install

Followed the instruction but the trie file was never created.
I am not sure if I should download the files directly. Are they the latest version?

Thanks!

Re: Problem with accents

(Sorry for my English, I'm French !)
I tried with another computer and ubuntu 14.04 and it works perfectly.
I will remove my ./netbeans directory and I think it will work.
I think my problem comes from the fact that I installed dictionaries manually before to discover your plugin. Maybe in iso8859-1 and after, it was probably the mess in the config.
For information, on netbeans 8.0, I haven't found files ".trie1" that you talk about in the Introduction. May be you should remove that from the documentation.

Many thanks for your work !

UPDATE : I uninstalled netbeans to do a fresh install and spellchecker works perfectly in French and with accents. So my problem was certainly an old manual import of an iso8859-1 dictionary.

Re: Problem with accents

Hi,
Thanks for your answer, so fast.
But all my files are encoded with utf-8.

Have you another idea ?

Re: Problem with accents

Hi,
French dictionaries use UTF8 encoding. It may not work it you use any other characters encoding, like cp1252 or iso8859-1.

how i installed the french dict

using NetBeans 7+ simply go to menu : tools > plugins, then
1. install spellchecker
2. install spellchecker french dict
3. if needed go in menu : tools > option > misc. > spellchecker > then select "fr" from the list (not "fr_FR" just "fr").

It worked for me

thanx ent38 for the good work ;)
